Home of the Brave Artist Residency

Home of the Brave is an artist-in-residence program based in Cisco, Utah. Reimagined by visual artist Eileen Muza, the former ghost town is now a working embodiment of the values that she and others in the extended Cisco family have worked to foster: artistic freedom, creative repurposing, social inclusivity and sustainable growth.

Home of the Brave is committed to cultivating a space where artists of any medium, means, or self-identification, can immerse themselves and create freely amidst the beauty and solitude of the high desert.

The residency offers a unique opportunity for artists to disconnect from the distractions of modern life and connect deeply with their creative processes. Nestled in the rugged landscape of Cisco, the program provides an environment that encourages experimentation and introspection. Artists are invited to explore their boundaries, push their creative limits, and draw inspiration from the stark yet stunning surroundings. This isolation, coupled with the freedom to create without external pressures, allows residents to fully engage with their work, resulting in deeply personal and transformative artistic experiences.

Home of the Brave also emphasizes the importance of community and collaboration. While the residency is a space for individual reflection and creation, it also serves as a meeting point for artists from diverse backgrounds to share ideas, techniques, and experiences. This exchange fosters a sense of camaraderie and mutual support, which is integral to the ethos of the program. Through workshops, group projects, and informal gatherings, artists are encouraged to learn from each other and contribute to the collective energy of the Cisco community. This collaborative spirit not only enriches the artistic output of the residents but also strengthens the bonds between them, creating a lasting network of creative professionals.

In addition to supporting artistic endeavors, Home of the Brave is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices within its operations and the broader artistic community. The program actively encourages artists to engage with themes of environmental stewardship and social responsibility in their work. Through its commitment to sustainability, Home of the Brave not only preserves the natural beauty of its desert surroundings but also inspires artists to consider the ecological and social impact of their creations. This focus on sustainability ensures that the program remains a thriving, dynamic space where art and nature coexist harmoniously, benefiting both the artists and the environment.
